Acne Treatment
Acne is a common skin problem affecting many adolescents and some adults. It is the result of obstruction and inflammation of the hair follicle and sebaceous gland and leads to the formation of comedones (whiteheads and blackheads), papules, pustules, nodules, and/or cysts. Treatment of mild acne hinges on topical and systemic agents that reduce oily skin and the associated infection and inflammation that leads to more severe forms.
Cystic acne is a severe form that can worsen and become abscesses and this is well known to turn into scars. Scaring is the result of inflammation and manifest as tiny, deep pits called icepick scars. These scars are often a significant source of emotional distress that can take a huge emotional toll on adolescents and adults. Small scars can be treated with chemical peels or laser resurfacing while deeper scars or those with wide shallow depressions can be treated with collagen injection.
Laser Genesis is an extremely effective treatment. The heat it generates kills bacteria both on and beneath the skin which drastically diminish acne while preventing further breakouts. This heat also stimulates collagen production, which helps remodel/heal scars and improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Laser Genesis is recommended for treating the face, neck, and chest. However, it can also work on other parts of the body to help with scar reduction.
